A video made by SK Group, promoting Korea's bid to host the World Expo 2030 in Busan, has topped 10 million views only 10 days after release, according to market watchers, Thursday.
The video storytelling campaign is similar to one launched by Hyundai Motor on Wednesday. The short video titled "Busan is Ready" features people from 17 member countries of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), an intergovernmental organization in charge of overseeing and regulating World Expos. The Enquiry Mission led by BIE Administration and Budget Committee President Patrick Specht is visiting this week to assess Korea's viability and feasibility to host the high-profile international event.
SK's clip, "Request from the Future," was released March 27 and has since garnered 10 million views.
The video features Chan-hyuk, a singer-songwriter of AKMU, who was on his way to the venue for World Expo 2030 on a hydrogen drone but crashed and finds himself in 2023 in a time warp.
The only way for him to go back to 2030 is to drum up support for Korea's bid to host the high-profile, six-month event.
Viewers are able to leave messages on why they think Busan is perfectly suited to host the international event by calling the numbers on the screen and leaving a voicemail.
SK said the clip will continue to sustain strong public enthusiasm, underpinned by a variety of campaigns launched by Korea's business leaders, including SK Group chairman Chey Tae-won, who doubles as the head of the Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
On Wednesday, SKT, the high-tech and telecommunications affiliate of SK Group, took the eight-member mission for a tour of the North Port in Busan, the proposed venue of World Expo 2030.
SKT organized events where they can experience virtual reality (VR) and urban air mobility (UAM) technology.
The eight members visited Busan Port International Exhibition and Convention Center (BPEX) where the mission was informed about how technology can help overcome challenges for humanity.
The delegates boarded a UAM simulator and wore VR headsets to experience a mixed-reality flight over North Port.
