KT launched two new service robots that are both based on artificial intelligence (AI) technology, targeting restaurants that are seeking to ease their operational burden by using robots, the company said Tuesday.
The company said the two new robots are made by Bear Robotics and LG Electronics, respectively, and have significantly improved driving stability and marketing utilization compared to the existing models. With the two models, KT now has five AI-based robots.
The two next-generation AI service robots are designed to carry food and drinks in a variety of indoor environments, including uneven tile floors and uneven surfaces, using optimized suspension structures and cushioning devices for stability. In addition, stability has been greatly improved so that multiple robots can be operated in the same space at the same time.
With the launch of these robots, KT plans to expand the use of service robots to indoor golf centers, PC cafes and parts-manufacturing factories.
The AI service robot made by LG Electronics has six independent suspension components, a lidar sensor and a 3D camera to improve driving stability. It can also be utilized as a guide robot by using the customer guidance mode, which allows users to display desired information on a built-in screen, KT said.
Bear Robotics' AI service robot features enhanced driving stability, a large weight-responsive tray and a height-adjustable four-tiered tray, which are specialized for domestic stores with many side dishes and soup dishes, KT said.
Both models are also equipped with a display, which can be used as a store guide, the company added.
Another feature of the new robots is that they work in conjunction with kiosks or tablets in stores, KT said. For example, the robots will respond to customers when they receive a request from a tablet on a table or a call bell.
"The next-generation service robots are products of KT's accumulated know-how and are expected to increase work efficiency and customer satisfaction," Lee Sang-ho, head of KT's AI Robot Business Unit, said.
"We will provide differentiated customer value through our data-driven and intelligent robot platform capability and establish ourselves as the best service robot company in Korea," he added.
