Samsung, LG expand into appliances with pet care features

Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are increasingly offering home appliances with pet care features, targeting the growing number of pet owners here, company officials said, Thursday.

They said the appliance makers are releasing related products to meet the needs of those pet owners who want to manage their pets more conveniently.

LG Electronics offers the pet care software upgrade for customers using its upgradable home appliances. Those who are using its LG Tromm washer and dryer, LG Mini washer and LG Wash Tower that combines a washing machine and dryer, can add the pet care feature to remove stains and mud or grass on clothes effectively.

"Pet care functions can be added as software upgrades for people living with pets. In the case of dryers, we also offer pet care accessories such as a special filter that can filter animal fur, so hardware upgrades are possible, too," an LG spokesperson said.

Samsung is also offering home appliances that feature pet care functions. For its Bespoke home appliance lineup, its Jet cordless vacuum, Jet Bot robot vacuum, Cube air purifier, washer and dryer all have pet care functions, helping pet owners manage their spaces hygienically and comfortably.

For instance, the company's pet care-enabled air purifier is specialized in removing hair and the unique smells of pets from the air. Its robot vacuum monitors pets' daily activities and sends alarms to users when it detects any abnormal behavior.

"As the number of pet owner increases, our home appliances also add pet care functions to meet consumers' needs. Customers with dogs or cats prefer products with pet care functions when purchasing washing machines and air purifiers. We plan to further strengthen this product lineup in the future," a Samsung spokesperson said.

Starting Friday, Samsung will conduct its Pet Picnic event at the Paradise Hotel Busan to let more visitors experience their home appliances featuring pet care functions.
