'Adventure by Accident 3' explores new side of Madagascar

The travel reality show “Adventure by Accident” is returning with its third season, setting the adventurer in Madagascar this time.

The MBC show follows webcomics creator, Kian84, and his friends going on unplanned adventures across different countries. The first season, which aired last December, featured Kian84 and his actor friend Lee Si-eon and travel YouTuber Pani Bottle taking a 10-day journey across South America. Season 2 showed Kian84’s trip to India with TV personality Dex and Pani Bottle.

In the new season, set to air on Sunday, Kian84 is reuniting with all of the cast from previous seasons to explore the island country of Africa.

“After the success of Season 2, rather than feeling pressure about the third season, our minds were more on wanting to introduce the relatively unknown country, Madagascar. We thought of introducing Madagascar in a different way,” the show’s producer, Kim Ji-woo, said during the press conference for the show, held at MBC in Mapo District, Seoul, Thursday.

“Many tend to associate Africa with civil wars or famines, but instead of those, we focused on how the locals live. We planned to take a closer look into their lives, including millennials and Gen Z people that Kian84 likes. So we headed there with a curiosity and a lot of things happened.”

Kian84 shared a glimpse of the new season, saying it will be more interesting to watch than the previous trip.

“The India episodes hit higher viewership ratings than we expected, so Producer Kim felt a sense of pressure. I also did but this came out more interesting. I can’t lie, the first episode is a little weak. But from episode 2, it’s unbelievable. I thank the producer and co-cast members for allowing me to do such a fun reality show,” he said.

“Not that the trip is more enjoyable or funnier than what I felt during the India trip, but I felt a stronger fear and bigger dynamics of emotions.”

Kim hinted there will be many more interesting scenes in the new season. “India is more spiritual and sacred. There were spiritual encounters there. On the other hand, in Africa, there were more physical things and times to feel excitement and such,” he said.

He added the theme of Season 3 is friendship. “Season 1 was a failed trip, 2 was ride or die, and the third one, I felt, was the friends’ trip. There are friendships Kian forms with the people he meets along the way, the friendship he has had with Lee, Dex and Pani Bottle. Those all come together to show an ultimate friend trip,” he said.

“Adventure by Accident 3” airs every Sunday at 9:10 p.m. starting this week.
