The price of major cryptocurrencies in Korea are plunging amid a series of heightened warnings from regulators here. The Bitcoin price here stood at $50,000 as of 11 a.m. at Upbit, a Seoul-based cryptocurrency exchange, down 6.61 percent from a day earlier.

Regulators, such as the Financial Services Commission (FSC) and the Bank of Korea (BOK), are voicing increasing concerns over the cryptocurrency trading fever particularly among younger Koreans.
금융위원회, 한국은행 등 금융당국은 젊은 층의 암호화폐 투자 열기에 대한 우려의 목소리를 높이고 있다.
"Virtual assets have too many restrictions in terms of their usage as a means of payment," BOK Governor Lee Ju-yeol said at a recent press conference. "We maintain our position that they do not have any inherent value."
이주열 한국은행 총재는 최근 기자간담회에서 "암호화폐가 지급수단으로 사용되는 데에는 제약이 많다"며 "내재가치가 없다는 기존의 입장에는 변화가 없다"고 말했다.
FSC Chairman Eun Sung-soo also remained skeptical over cryptocurrencies, hinting at the possibility of introducing tighter regulations against any speculative trading of digital assets.
은성수 금융위원장도 암호화폐에 대해 회의적인 입장을 보이며 이 디지털자산의 투기거래에 대해 더 엄격한 규제를 도입할 가능성을 내비쳤다.
Eun also made it clear that authorities will not take responsibility for any losses stemming from cryptocurrency investments.
은 위원장은 암호화폐 투자에 따른 손실에 대해서도 당국이 책임을 지지 않겠다는 뜻을 분명히 밝혔다.
