A conference for English instructors working in elementary and middle schools in Korea will be held later this week at Konkuk University in Seoul. The event will outline the country's ongoing public language teaching environment and will look to learn from U.S. and UK speakers about English education in this ever-changing digital era.
The 2023 Joint International Conference on ELT in Korea will follow key related topics as mentioned in the event slogan: “English Language Education in the Era of Digital Transformation: Opportunities, Connectivity and Sustainability.”
The event will be held from Thursday to Saturday, and is being co-organized by Cheongju National University of Education's Education Training Institute, the Korean Organization of Secondary English Teachers Association and nine private research unions that research best practices regarding the teaching of English to Koreans.
Keynote speakers include instructors from renowned universities in English countries like Tony McEnery from Lancaster University in the United Kingdom, Joan Kelly Hall, Yuko Goto Butler from Pennsylvania State University, Julio Rodriguez from the University of Hawaii, Kazuya Saito from University College London and Youngjoo Yi from Ohio State University.
The conference will aim to share how the globally dominant language is being taught to junior students using AI in different countries. Representatives from the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation will also join the event to present how the country's students are learning the language via public education.
Another key segment of the conference will revolve around communication between English educational scholars from around the world and English teachers practicing in the country. The meet-up is expected to help uncover tips for getting Korean teenagers more familiar with the language and for the instructors to more effectively deliver their teaching methods in the classrooms.
The conference will be available via video sessions online, which continue until July 31. The event should be pre-applied at jointconference2023.com.
