Sungmin, a member of the K-pop boy band Super Junior, is looking to redefine himself when he makes his debut as a trot artist with the single “Lovesick” on May 10.
Trot is a genre of Korean popular music, known for its use of repetitive rhythm and vocal inflections.
The new single will be released at 6 p.m. on May 10 on major music streaming platforms, part of a two-song mini-album that includes the title track “Lovesick” and “Aeri.”
“Lovesick” is a Latin dance track that combines the booming sounds of brass instruments and electric guitars with congas and various percussion instruments. The lyrics are about love and are expressed in a witty take, which along with the memorable chorus may appeal not only to the older generation, but younger listeners as well.
Sungmin has already established himself as a successful solo artist, receiving positive feedback for his first mini-album “Orgel”, the single “Goodnight, Summer” and SM Station digital single “Day Dream.” He earned rave reviews for his television appearance on TV Chosun's Mr. Trot Season 2, which encouraged Sungmin to pursue a professional career in trot music.
