The government has decided to further loosen its guidelines on social distancing, beginning Wednesday, amid clear signs of a slowdown in the number of new COVID-19 infections here, Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun said Sunday.
정부는 국내 신종 코로나바이러스(코로나19) 감염자 수의 둔화 조짐이 뚜렷한 가운데 수요일부터 사회적 거리두기 방침을 완화하기로 했다고 정세균 국무총리가 일요일 밝혔다.
Under its "Distancing in daily life" plan, the government will allow the phased reopening of facilities that have been shut down amid the coronavirus outbreak, Chung said.
정부는 '생활 속 거리두기' 계획에 따라 코로나바이러스 발병으로 인해 문을 닫았던 시설들의 단계적 재개를 허용한다고 정 총리는 설명했다.
The government will also allow meetings and events to be held as long as participants abide by some basic quarantine guidelines. "The country will move on to distancing in daily life," Chung said during a pan-government COVID-19 meeting.
정부는 또한 참석자들이 몇 가지 기본적인 방역지침을 지침을 준수한다면 모임과 행사도 개최할 수 있도록 허용할 예정이다. 정 총리는 코로나19 대응 중앙재난안전대책본부 회의에서 "한국은 생활 속 거리두기 방침으로 전환할 것"이라고 밝혔다.
"Many experts and officials from local governments have agreed that conditions to do so have been met."
이어 "많은 전문가와 지자체 관계자들이 그렇게 할 수 있는 여건이 되었다는 데 의견을 같이했다"고 덧붙였다.
Chung also hinted that the government would lower its alert level against COVID-19 soon, saying the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) will discuss the matter.
정 총리는 또 정부가 코로나19에 대한 위기경보 단계 하향 가능성을 시사하며 보건복지부와 질병관리본부가 이 문제를 논의할 것이라고 언급했다
On Feb. 23, the administration raised its alert level against the contagious disease to its "highest" in response to the confirmation of hundreds of new cases at the time.
2월 23일, 정부는 당시 수백 건의 새로운 사례가 확인됨에 따라 감염병 위기 경보 단계를 최고 수준인 ‘심각'으로 격상한 바 있다.
"The risk of infection in and outside the country still exists, but the assessment of the situation by the health authorities is that most risks are now under control," Chung said.
정 총리는 "아직 대내외 감염 위험은 여전히 존재하지만, 대체로 방역망 내에서 통제되고 있다는 것이 방역당국의 평가"라고 설명했다.
