Pengsoo, a sensational giant penguin mascot, will make its singing debut and target America's Billboard chart.
선풍적인 인기를 구가하는 거대 펭귄 마스코트 '펭수'가 가수로 데뷔하며 미국 빌보드 차트를 공략을 노린다.
The 10-year-old character will release its first digital single "This is PENGSOO" on April 21, according to its creator the Korea Educational Broadcasting System (EBS), Friday.
금요일 한국교육방송(EBS)은 10살인 펭수가 이달 21일 첫 디지털 싱글 '펭수로 하겠습니다'를 발매한다고 발표했다.
The song is a part of the character's "BILLBOARD PROJECT Vol. 1" that features high-profile hip-hop musicians including Tiger JK.
이 곡은 펭수의 '빌보드 프로젝트 Vol. 1'의 일부로서 타이거 JK를 비롯한 유명 힙합 뮤지션들이 참여했다.
"This is PENGSOO" is a blend of rap and yodel. Through the lyrics, Pengsoo delivers its hope to make it onto the Billboard chart.
'펭수로 하겠습니다(This is Pengsoo)'는 랩과 요들송이 어우러진 곡이다. 가사를 통해 펭수는 빌보드 차트에 오르고 싶다는 바람을 전한다.
Revenue from the track will be donated to an environmental organization in celebration of World Penguin Day (April 25).
이 곡의 수익금은 '세계 펭귄의 날'(4월 25일)을 기념해 환경단체에 기부된다.
"Pengsoo will also venture into various musical genres other than hip-hop in the coming days," EBS said. "We hope the upcoming release can be a gift for those who have been looking forward to Pengsoo's song."
EBS는 "펭수는 앞으로 힙합 이외의 다양한 음악 장르에 도전할 것"이라고 밝혔다. 이어 "신곡 발표가 펭수의 노래를 고대해 온 이들에게 선물이 될 수 있기를 바란다"고 전했다.
EBS 1TV will air an episode of Pengsoo's collaboration at 7:45 p.m. (KST) Friday. The episode will also be uploaded to the character's YouTube channel "Giant Peng TV," which has racked up more than 2 million subscribers.
EBS 1은 금요일 오후 7시 45분(한국시각) 펭수의 콜라보레이션 에피소드를 방송한다. 이 에피소드는 200만 명이 넘는 구독자를 끌어모은 펭수의 유튜브 채널 '자이언트펭 TV'에도 업로드될 예정이다.
Pengsoo, a genderless penguin from Antarctica, came to Korea to become a star, according to EBS. Debuting in 2019, the 210-centimeter-tall character rose to stardom here thanks to its humor and bluntness. It was even voted "Person of the Year" in Korea last year.
EBS에 따르면, 남극에서 태어난 성별이 없는 펭귄인 펭수는 스타가 되기 위해 한국에 왔다. 2019년에 데뷔한 210cm의 이 캐릭터는 유머와 무뚝뚝함 덕분에 이곳에서 스타덤에 올랐다. 펭수는 지난해 한국 올해의 인물로 선정되기도 했다.
