JTBC's hit TV series "Itaewon Class" has ended the two-month run with its highest viewership rating at 16.5 percent on Saturday.
JTBC의 인기 시리즈 '이태원 클라쓰'가 지난 토요일 16.5%의 시청률 최고치를 찍으며 두 달간의 여정을 종료했다.
The show, which started with a 5 percent rating on Jan. 31, soon became one of the most popular, with interesting story development and colorful performances. By its fifth episode, its rating had surpassed 10 percent.
지난 1월 31일 5%의 시청률로 시작한 '이태원 클라쓰'는 흥미로운 스토리 전개와 다채로운 연기로 금새 가장 인기 있는 드라마로 떠올랐다. '이태원 클라쓰'는 5회 만에 시청률 10%를 돌파했다.
"I was grateful to work for 'Itaewon Class,' which allowed me to look back on myself and look to my future," lead actor Park Seo-joon said through his agency Awesome Ent Sunday. "I hope this show gave you the same opportunity and I thank everyone for watching."
지난 일요일 이 드라마의 주연 배우 박서준은 소속사 어썸이엔티를 통해 "내 자신을 돌아보고 미래를 바라볼 수 있게 해준 '이태원 클라쓰'에 대해 감사하게 생각했다"고 밝혔다. 이어 "이 드라마가 당신에게도 같은 기회를 주기를 바라며 시청해주신 모든 분들께 감사드린다"고 말했다.
Based on the webcomics of the same name, the drama adaptation came after the original story was a huge hit online, garnering 14 million subscribers on Daum, a Korean web portal.
동명의 웹툰을 바탕으로 한 이 드라마는 원작 웹툰이 온라인에서 큰 인기를 끌었는데, 원작의 경우 포털 사이트 '다음'에서 1,400만 명의 구독자를 얻은 바 있다.

Writer Cho Kwang-jin, also the creator of the webcomics, said he modified the original script to make it even more interesting.
웹툰 제작자인 조광진 작가는 드라마가 원작의 대본을 더욱 흥미롭게 수정했다고 본인의 생각을 밝혔다.
"The strength of this drama is that I had an idea of what the viewers would like to see after reading the comments for my webcomics," he said during a press conference in January.
그는 지난 1월 기자회견장에서 "이 드라마의 장점은 웹툰에 달린 댓글을 읽으며 시청자들이 무엇을 보고 싶어하는지에 대한 아이디어가 떠올랐다는 것"이라고 말했다.
The story revolved around Park Sae-ro-yi, whose life changes profoundly after he is expelled from school for punching a bully, the son of major food company owner Jang Dae-hee. Following the death of his father, Park opens a restaurant to compete with the company on the popular Itaewon street.
식품업계 대기업 사장 장대희의 아들인 불량 학생 장근원을 주먹으로 때렸다는 이유로 퇴학당한 뒤 인생이 크게 바뀌는 박새로이를 중심으로 드라마가 전개된다. 아버지의 죽음에 이어 박새로이는 인기 있는 이태원 거리에서 거대 식품기업과 경쟁하기 위해 식당을 연다.
The series is also available on Netflix.
