A seven-month-old tiger cub that was born and raised inside a Korean zoo has died on Jan. 8 after being fed and choking on its food.
한국의 동물원에서 태어나 사육되던 7개월된 새끼호랑이가 1월 8일 먹이를 먹다 기도가 막혀 질식사했다.
The female cub named "Gangsan" ate beef left inside its indoor cell at Zootopia inside the large-scale theme park, Everland Resort, in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. Shortly after, a caretaker at the facility saw the cub suddenly beginning to move more lethargically than before and realized that it wasn't breathing normally.
경기 용인시에 위치한 대형 규모 테마파크 에버랜드 리조트의 주토피아(동물원) 실내사육공간에 남겨진 쇠고기를 "강산"이라 불리는 막내 암컷이 먹었다. 잠시 후 시설의 사육사는 이 새끼호랑이의 움직임이 갑작스럽게 전보다 둔해지는 걸 보았고 정상적으로 숨쉬고 있지 않다는 것을 깨달았다.
The cub was immediately brought to a separate confinement area apart from its four siblings where it received cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Despite the procedure, the cub died at the scene.
이 새끼호랑이는 바로 4마리의 형제들과 떨어져 분리된 닫힌 공간으로 옮겨져 심폐소생술을 받았다. 이러한 조치에도 불구하고 이 아기호랑이는 현장에서 죽었다.
Veterinarians at the zoo performed an autopsy on Gangsan and sent the results and its video records to a professor at Seoul National University's College of Veterinary Medicine for further confirmation of the cause of the cub's death.
동물원의 수의사는 강산을 부검한 뒤 사인을 더 확실히 확인하기 위해 부검 내용과 영상을 서울대 수의대 병리학과 교수에게 보냈다.
The following response came back to the zoo: respiratory failure due to sudden airway obstruction while eating.
‘음식 섭취 중 급성 기도폐쇄로 인한 호흡곤란'이라는 대답이 동물원에 돌아왔다.
The zoo said that the "unfortunate" incident occurred as the facility had been trying to raise the endangered cub as naturally as possible by having Gangsan's mother nurture the cub and improving the environment in which the animals are confined.
동물원은 시설에서는 강산의 어미가 새끼호랑이를 돌보게 하고 동물들이 갇힌 환경을 개선하여 멸종 위기의 새끼호랑이 양육을 최대한 야생과 같이 하려고 노력하는 상황에서 이런 "안타까운" 사건이 발생했다고 전했다.
Gangsan was the youngest of five cubs born naturally at the zoo in June 2021. It was rare for a tiger to give birth to more than three cubs at once.
강산은 2021년 6월 동물원에서 자연적으로 태어난 5마리 호랑이새끼 중 막내였다. 호랑이가 한번에 새끼를 세 마리 이상 낳는 것은 드문 일이다.
