LAS VEGAS ― Hyundai Mobis unveiled its "New Mobis" vision at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Thursday (local time), declaring a leap forward as a mobility company, which provides an integrated platform centered on software.
The automotive parts manufacturing unit of Hyundai Motor Group also redefined its name as "MObility Beyond Integrated Solution," in order to emphasize its future strategy: the innovation of the user experience and the provision of integrated solutions optimized for customer needs.
These announcements were made during a media showcase hosted at the company's exhibition booth by Hyundai Mobis President Cho Sung-hwan, who represented Hyundai Motor Group at the world's most influential tech event this year. Hyundai Motor, which introduced its robotics business at last year's CES through a presentation delivered by Executive Chair Chung Euisun, did not take part in this year's show.
Cho stressed the importance and the direction of future growth as a company that is making a transition from being a mere parts supplier to a mobility platform provider.
"Our integrated platform will be reliable, scalable and flexible," he said in his speech. "Hyundai Mobis is now ready to make another step forward based on our innovative R&D technology."
Hyundai Mobis explained that its long-term goal and key strategy for New Mobis is to become a mobility platform provider that offers integrated solutions by combining core technologies in electrification, autonomous driving and connectivity.
The company especially demonstrated its future growth strategy through the M.Vision TO, the future "purpose-built vehicle (PBV)" concept model unveiled at this year's CES. PBV refers to an eco-friendly, multi-purpose mobility vehicle intended to meet customers' business purposes and needs, according to Hyundai Mobis.
Hyundai Mobis said that the M.Vision TO is an electrification-based autonomous vehicle with an integrated solution of combining its drive module battery system with pillar modules centered on the e-corner system, autonomous driving sensors and communication lighting.
As the M.Vision TO is available in various shapes and sizes for different purposes, and, as it enables crab driving and a zero-turn radius with 90-degree rotating wheels, it can be used for diverse purposes, such as driving in crowded downtown areas and transporting cargo.
"Reliable software and semiconductor technologies are the key to the future mobility solutions that we provide," Hyundai Mobis Future Technology Convergence Institute head Cheon Jae-seung said at the media showcase.
In this regard, Hyundai Mobis executives met with their counterparts from Qualcomm at the CES, in order to develop an integrated level 3 autonomous driving controller using the U.S. tech firm's Snapdragon Ride Platforms by the end of June this year. The company has developed an autonomous driving software platform independently, so as to provide the platform to both global and local carmakers.
The auto parts maker said it will continue to strengthen cooperative relationships with various partners to secure new technologies for future mobility. It recently teamed up with Ottopia, an Israeli start-up, to develop a remote support solution for self-driving, targeting the fully autonomous driving market of level 4 or higher.
