Actor Jung Woo-sung will replace Bae Sung-woo in the lead role of the SBS TV series "Delayed Justice" after it axed Bae following a drunk driving charge.
배우 배성우가 음주 운전 혐의로 드라마에서 퇴출당하자 배우 정우성이 그를 대신해 TV드라마 ‘날아라 개천용'의 주연 자리를 맡을 예정이다.
The network announced Monday that Jung has been confirmed for the role and will start shooting the series this week.
SBS는 월요일 정우성이 해당 드라마 시리즈의 주연으로 이번 주 촬영을 시작한다고 공식 발표했다.
Prior to Jung's acceptance of the part, actor Lee Jung-jae was reported to be "in final talks" to take Bae's role as crusading journalist Park Sam-soo.
정우성의 해당 배역 수락 이전에 배우 이정재가 배성우의 정의로운 기자 역을 맡기 위한 최종 협상에 돌입했다는 보도가 나오기도 했다.
As the co-founders of Bae's agency Artist Company, Jung and Lee have been keen on managing Bae's situation.
배성우의 소속사인 아티스트컴퍼니의 공동 대표인 정우성과 이정재는 배성우의 상황을 해결하고자 노력해왔다.
"Lee Jung-jae was in process of readjusting his schedule to allow him to join 'Delayed Justice,'" the agency said in a statement Monday, adding that it was ultimately unfeasible.
소속사는 월요일 성명을 통해 "이정재가 ‘날아라 개천용' 합류를 위해 일정을 재조정하던 중이었다"라고 밝히며 결국엔 불가능했다고 덧붙였다.
"Jung wished to take on the responsibility, after learning the news," it said. "He decided to step in, as he hopes for the series to wrap up production successfully."
"정우성이 뉴스를 접한 후에 책임을 지고 싶어 했다"라고 소속사는 전했다. 이어 "정우성이 해당 드라마 제작이 성공적으로 끝나기를 바라는 마음에 참여하기로 결심했다"고 설명했다.
With the new lead cast member, the network will resume airing the series from the beginning of January 2021.
새로운 주연 배우와 함께 SBS는 해당 드라마를 2021년 1월 초부터 다시 방영할 예정이다.
The network will edit out most of Bae's scenes from the episodes that have already been filmed. And Jung will appear as the character from episode 17 through to the end, it said.
SBS는 이미 촬영된 에피소드에서 배성우의 출연 장면 대부분을 편집할 계획이다. 그리고 정우성은 17회부터 종영까지 주인공으로 등장할 예정이라고 SBS는 밝혔다.
The series, which has aired 12 of its 20-episodes, halted production after the former lead Bae was reported to have been caught drunk driving last month. His blood-alcohol level at the time was high enough to have his license revoked, police said.
현재 12회까지 방영한 20부작 시리즈인 ‘날아라 개천용'은 주연배우 배성우가 지난달 음주 운전에 걸렸다는 보도 이후 제작을 중단했다. 배성우의 혈중알코올농도는 면허가 취소될 수준으로 높았다고 경찰은 전했다.
When the news of his charge came out on Dec. 11, the network made the decision the next day to dismiss him from the show, saying it "concluded that the actor's removal was unavoidable."
12월 11일 그의 음주 운전 혐의가 보도되자, 방송국 측은 해당 드라마에서 그의 하차 결정을 내렸고 "배우의 퇴출은 어쩔 수 없었다"고 설명했다.
