Some restaurant owners are gearing up to boycott Baedal Minjok (Baemin) and Coupang Eats after the two companies raised delivery fees sharply, according to industry watchers Tuesday.
화요일 업계분석가들에 의하면 일부 식당 운영자들은 배달의민족(배민)과 쿠팡이츠가 배달비를 급격하게 올린 뒤 두 회사 거부운동을 하기 위해 준비하고 있다.
In addition, a growing number of consumers are choosing not to have their food delivered because of soaring fees and opting instead to pick up their orders.
또한, 증가하는 수의 소비자들이 급증하는 배달비 때문에 음식 배달 대신 주문한 음식을 직접 가지러 가는 선택을 하고 있다.
On Feb. 3, Coupang Eats adopted a new pricing system for single-order delivery services, and Baemin followed suit on March 22. They decided to charge commission fees of 6.8 percent and 9.8 percent of the food prices and force the restaurants to shoulder the delivery costs, ranging from 5,400 won ($4.36) to 6,000 won.
지난 2월 3일 쿠팡이츠는 단건 주문 서비스를 위해 새로운 가격 체제를 도입했고, 배민은 3월 22일 이를 따라 했다. 이 두 회사는 음식 가격(주문 금액)의 6.8%(배민1)와 9.8%(쿠팡이츠)를 수수료로 책정하고 음식점들에 5400원(4.36달러)~6000원 사이의 배달비 부담을 강제하기로 결정했다.
The restaurants then split the delivery fees with customers. If they want to increase profit, they can charge customers a bigger share of the delivery costs, which could result in losing clients.
식당들은 이후 배달비를 소비자와 나눠서 낸다. 이익을 증가시키고 싶으면 고객에게 배달비의 더 많은 부분을 청구할 수 있으나 이는 고객을 잃는 결과로 이어질 수 있다.
"Baemin lists the names of restaurants on its app in order of low delivery prices. That means restaurant owners have to shoulder more delivery expenses to attract customers. This new pricing system for single-order delivery services only profits delivery firms. I am thinking of boycotting Baemin 1 and Coupang Eats," a 34-year-old restaurant owner surnamed Kim said.
한 음식점 주인 김 씨(34)는 "배민은 애플리케이션(앱) 상에 음식점 목록을 낮은 배달비 순으로 배열한다. 이는 음식점 주인들이 고객들을 유치하기 위해 더 많은 배달비를 부담해야 한다는 것을 의미한다. 단건 주문 배달 서비스를 위한 새로운 가격 시스템은 배달 기업들에게만 이익이 된다. 배민1과 쿠팡이츠 거부운동을 할 생각이다"라고 말했다.
Baemin 1 is a one-order-per-delivery service run by Baemin. Coupang Eats operates only a single-order delivery system.
배민1은 배민에 의해 운영되며 각 배달마다 단건 주문만 하는 서비스를 말한다. 쿠팡이츠는 단건 주문 배달만 운영하는 시스템이다.
Kim added that more and more self-employed people are planning to avoid using Baemin 1 and Coupang Eats and encouraged customers to pick up their food for a cheaper price.
김 씨는 더 많은 자영업자들이 배민1과 쿠팡이츠 사용을 피하고 소비자들이 음식을 더 저렴한 가격에 포장해 가져가는 것을 장려할 계획이라고 덧붙였다.
