Coupang has decided to change its refund policy, which lets customers return any product they bought within 30 days of purchase without any conditions. The e-commerce giant said Sunday it expects the new measure will weed out troublesome customers and reduce snowballing losses as a result.
쿠팡이 고객들이 구매 후 30일 내에 어떤 제품이든 무조건적으로 환불이 가능하도록 했던 반품 정책을 바꾸기로 결정했다. 일요일 이 전자 상거래 대기업은 새 정책이 골치 아픈 고객들을 제거하고 결과적으로 눈덩이처럼 불어나는 손실을 줄여줄 것으로 기대한다고 전했다.
Until now, Coupang has allowed customers who ask for refunds on purchased products even after they've been used, because the return policy helped the e-commerce firm attract a large number of paid-membership users.
지금까지 쿠팡은 고객이 제품을 사용한 뒤에도 환불 요청을 허용했는데, 왜냐하면 반품 정책이 이 전자 상거래 기업이 많은 수의 멤버십(유료회원) 사용자를 유입하도록 도왔기 때문이다.
However, concerns have been growing over an increasing number of people abusing Coupang's refund system.
그러나, 점점 더 많은 수의 사람들이 쿠팡의 환불 시스템을 악용하며 우려가 커져왔다.
In one case, a consumer was caught returning an Apple laptop after using it for 20 days last year, but Coupang took it back without asking any questions.
한 사례에서 한 소비자는 애플 노트북을 지난 해 20일간 사용한 후 반품하다가 걸렸지만, 쿠팡은 아무것도 묻지 않고 제품을 환수했다.
To prevent the same incident from happening again, the online retailer posted a notice online that it will no longer take back items starting Sunday whose packaging has been damaged or price tag has been removed.
같은 사고의 재발생을 예방하기 위해 이 온라인 소매상은 일요일부터 포장이 훼손됐거나 가격표가 떼어진 제품들은 더 이상 환수하지 않겠다고 온라인으로 공지했다.
"We adopted the same policy before, but we have posted the notice to emphasize it," a Coupang official said. "We are trying to give a clear message to our customers about our refund policy."
한 쿠팡 관계자는 "우리는 같은 정책을 이전에도 도입했지만 이를 강조하기 위해 공지를 포스팅했다"고 말했다. "우리는 고객들에게 우리의 환불 정책에 대해 분명히 전달하려고 노력 중이다."
According to Coupang's recent post, customers have to submit a prescribed document from a dermatologist when returning a used cosmetic product. Electronic devices that have been turned on at least once cannot be returned either. Apparels or accessories without their price tags are also not eligible for refunds.
쿠팡의 최근 공지에 의하면 고객들은 사용한 화장품을 반품할 때는 피부과 전문의로부터 처방된 서류를 제출해야 한다. 또한 전자 기기를 한번이라도 키면 반품할 수 없다. 가격표가 없는 옷이나 액세서리 또한 환불 자격이 없다.
