Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg said Monday she has returned to school after a year off campaigning to curb climate change.
월요일 스웨덴의 환경운동가 그레타 툰베리가 1년간 기후변화를 막기 위한 활동을 마치고 학교로 돌아갔다.
"My gap year from school is over, and it feels so great to finally be back in school again!" the 17-year-old tweeted, attaching a smiling photo of herself with a schoolbag on her back and her hands resting on a bicycle.
17세인 툰베리는 가방을 메고 자전거에 손을 얹은 채 웃고 있는 사진과 함께 "학교로부터 떠나는 갭이어가 끝났고, 마침내 다시 학교로 돌아오니 너무 기분이 좋다"고 트위터에 글을 올렸다.
(*갭이어: 학업이나 직장 생활을 중단하고 삶을 탐색하는 시간. 영미권 국가에서 흔히 고등학교 졸업 후 대학 진학 전에 1년간의 갭이어를 가진다)
Thunberg did not say in which city or school she would be continuing her studies.
툰베리는 어느 도시 혹은 대학에서 학업을 이어나갈지에 대해서 언급하지 않았다.
Rather than head into the final years of secondary school, she traveled across the Atlantic by sailing boat ― hoping to highlight the carbon emissions of flying.
그녀는 고등학교 마지막 학년으로 올라가는 것을 뒤로 한 채, 비행기의 탄소 배출의 심각성을 강조하기 위해 보트를 타고 대서양을 횡단했다.
Her ultimate destination has been the COP25 U.N. climate conference in Chilean capital Santiago.
그녀의 최종 목적지는 칠레 수도 산티아고에서 열리는 COP25 유엔 기후 회의(기후변화협약 당사국총회)였다.
But the event was ultimately shifted to Madrid because of massive unrest in Chile, leaving Thunberg to sail back from the U.S. to Europe on board a catamaran belonging to a young Australian couple. (AFP)
그러나 이 행사는 칠레의 대규모 소요사태로 인해 결국 스페인 마드리드로 옮겨졌고, 툰베리는 한 젊은 호주인 부부 소유의 카타마란(쌍동선) 선을 타고 다시 미국에서 유럽으로 항해했다.
