[FB INSIDE] Uncertainty over Son's future soon to end

On July 31, South Korea's men will start training for the soccer tournament in the 2018 Asian Games though Son Heung-min will not be there. The forward will be in the United States with Tottenham Hotspur. The opposition will be a little more glamorous with pre-season friendly games against Roma, Barcelona and AC Milan.

7월 31일, 한국 축구국가대표팀은 손흥민 없이 2018아시안게임 토너먼트를 위해 훈련에 돌입한다. 손흥민은 소속팀 토트넘과 함께 미국에 있을 예정이다. 그가 프리시즌 친선경기에서 상대하는 팀은 로마, 바르셀로나, AC밀란으로 꽤 화려하다.

The star has been named in the Korean roster however, just that he will not be released by the London club until after the start of the English Premier League season on August 11. The Asian Games kick off three days later in Indonesia. Son will feature for Spurs in the opening game of the season against Newcastle and then will jet off to Southeast Asia for international commitments. It is not ideal for Korea as the 26 year-old will not be able to take part in any of the training and preparations and will arrive in Indonesia jet-lagged and tired.

손흥민은 한국 대표팀 명단에 포함되었지만, 영국 프리미어리그 시즌이 시작하는 8월 11일까지 나올 수 없다. 아시안게임은 3일 후에 인도네시아에서 열린다. 손흥민은 시즌 개막전에서 뉴캐슬을 상대한 후 국제적 의무를 위해 동남아로 날아온다. 그가 훈련에 참가하지도 못하고 시차로 인해 컨디션이 저하된 채 인도네시아에 도착하는 것은 한국에 이상적인 일은 아니다.

Yet there is no other way. Tottenham is under no obligation to release the player. The Asian Games is not part of the recognized soccer season and so Korea has to ask nicely. The only reason Spurs is allowing this to happen, and the only reason why Son is so desperate to play, is that winning gold at the tournament grants military exemption.

토트넘은 손흥민을 놓아줘야 할 아무런 의무가 없다. 아시안게임은 인정받는 축구 행사가 아니기에 한국대표팀이 조심스레 부탁해야 하는 부분이다. 토트넘이 이를 받아들인 유일한 이유와 손흥민이 이 대회에 간절히 뛰고 싶은 유일한 이유는 오직 금메달 획득이 주는 군면제다.

Should this happen then Son heads back to England to continue his career in the world's biggest league safe in the knowledge that he does not have to return home in the next couple of years for a 21-month long tour of duty with the KLeague's military club.

이렇게 되면 손흥민은 몇 년 내에 한국에 돌아가 상무팀에서 21개월 의무복무를 하지 않아도 되는 것에 안심하며 영국에 돌아가 세계 최고의 리그에서 선수 생활을 지속할 수 있다.

Despite the uncertainty, Son signed a new contract at Tottenham on Friday. He is now tied to the club until 2023, a reward for these three successful seasons in England in which he has become loved by Spurs fan and respected by everyone else.

불확실성에도 불구하고, 손흥민은 토트넘과 지난 금요일 재계약을 체결했다. 영국에서 성공적인 세 시즌을 보내며 토트넘 팬들의 사랑과 모두의 존경을 받은 것에 대한 보상으로 그는 이제 2023년까지 클럽에 속하게 되었다.
