Difficulty knocks on the door out of nowhere. Adversity comes in many forms. We all bound to face hardships from which it seems there is no way out. However, to see the rainbow, we have to overcome the storm. Only once we overcome what is in front of us, we can finally go further.

You can endure it with an indomitable will. You will eventually win through. The present will be an exemplar of the Chinese leadership and the people's solidarity. I believe this can be an opportunity to turn current evils into future blessings for China.

I believe so, because the leaders and the people are standing strongly standing, even though this invisible hazard is bringing great fear. China is responding to the challenge as best it can. The leaders are making all-out efforts to protect the people's well-being. People across China are also enthusiastically joining the quarantine front. The citizens of Wuhan who had patriotically sung the national song, the nurse volunteers who shaved their hair without a single hesitation, and the more than 10 Chinese friends who boarded a flight to Wuhan yesterday to see their family despite to the risk, they all touched our hearts.

Hwang Jae-ho.
A letter to friends in China fighting against coronavirus.

The Korean people know how bright and energetic their Chinese friends are. Korean people know about loyalty and sincerity. Korea knows that China will successfully overcome this challenge. My dear Chinese friends have the right to face challenges, the right to overcome, and the right finally to smile at the end. I have no doubt that we will soon greet each other with much laughter.

Wuhan in Korean can be pronounced as "infinite." I salute the infinite courage and sacrifice of the Chinese leaders and the people. Friends are people you can lean on the most during difficult times. Korea and China are the two best friends ever: like Guan Zhong and Bao Shuya's Friendship. Korea, as it was since the beginning, will cheer as a friend and give a big hand till the end. Feel the closeness of a friend although we are separated by a great distance. Please don't forget, my dear Chinese friends.

Hwang Jae-ho is director of the Global Security Cooperation Center, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Seoul.
