Mirae Asset Group Chairman Park Hyeon-joo, the founder of the group, will receive the International Executive of the Year Award at the annual meeting of the Academy of International Business (AIB) scheduled to take place in Seoul next year.
The AIB, established in 1959 in the U.S. state of Michigan, is the largest conference in the field of international management consisting of world-renowned scholars and experts. It has over 3,400 members in about 90 countries around the world.
It has been presenting the International Executive of the Year Award to business leaders who significantly enhance reputation and performance of their companies on the international stage.
Park, the founder of Mirae Asset Group, will become the second-ever Korean entrepreneur in 28 years to receive the award. The group explained that the award recognizes his innovative leadership in developing Mirae Asset Group into a global top-tier investment bank.
The award will be presented at the AIB's annual international conference in Seoul in July 2024, for which Park is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech at the opening ceremony.
Mirae Asset Group has expanded its global business to a scale of $100 billion. Park has concentrated on overseas business while serving as the group’s global strategy officer. He led the acquisition of GlobalX and GHCO. Most recently, Mirae Asset Securities secured new growth potential by acquiring Sharekhan, an Indian brokerage firm, for approximately 480 billion won ($367.5 million).
"Since its establishment, Mirae Asset has led Korea's financial exports by pioneering new paths beyond the domestic market," a Mirae Asset Group spokesperson said. "We will continue innovating through investment and global business to increase our customers' wealth and do our best for them to have a peaceful life after retirement."
