BUSAN ― Dunamu is all set to put on the agenda the next blockchain paradigm during the Upbit Developer Conference (UDC) 2022, which will kick off its two-day run in the nation's southern port city of Busan from Thursday.
The annual blockchain conference ― hosted by the operator of Korea's leading cryptocurrency exchange ― is one of the largest of its kind here. Dunamu expects more than 3,000 attendees to visit the conference venue.
Blind bird tickets for the event sold out only about a week after going on sale. Dunamu invited a group of 50 renowned blockchain specialists from here and abroad to join the event giving both developers and the general public the opportunity to check out the latest industry trends.
The UDC 2022 is scheduled to start with a welcome speech by Song Chi-hyung, co-founder and chairman of Dunamu. His address will be followed by keynote speeches by industry-leading blockchain professionals. They will share their insights on the next blockchain paradigm shift ― represented by Layer 2, smart contracts and Web 3.0.

On the first day of the event, Henry Hecht-Felella, global strategy and operating lead at Polygon, will deliver the first keynote speech on Layer 2. The Layer 2 blockchain is expected to help solve problems in the now-prevalent Layer 1 blockchain. Layer 1 cryptocurrencies include Bitcoin and Ethereum. But the Layer 2 blockchain network is widely expected to improve efficiency and transaction speed.
The second major theme of the UDC 2022 is smart contracts. Matt Sorg, tech and product lead at Solana, will discuss how blockchain will reshape our daily lives by enabling people to make smarter contracts. After Ethereum completed its much-anticipated Merge upgrade, smart contracts have become a major catchphrase in the blockchain industry globally.
Even if they have not become prevalent yet, blockchain industry insiders believe people's daily transactions will get easier and more simplified, as smart contracts are expected to replace most conventional financial contracts.
Web 3.0 is also one of the major topics to be addressed during the event. Vishwa Mehta at The Graph will explain the basic notion of the third-generation of web technology and help visitors get a better understanding of the future of the next internet paradigm.
The metaverse and non-fungible tokens (NFT) are the two major themes during the second day of the event.
HYBE America President Jason Lee will share his insight on the NFT market and its growth potential. HYBE and Dunamu recently set up a NFT joint venture in the U.S., identifying the area as their new revenue area.
A group of experts in metaverse and gaming is also ready to attract attention from the audience during the latter half of the event.
"We will scale up the event and do the utmost to make the UDC 2022 a special network venue," Dunamu CEO Lee Sirgoo said.
