K-pop girl group aespa’s virtual concert will be screened at Korean movie theater chain Megabox, starting Oct. 25. It marks a first-of-its-kind collaboration between VR concert platform AmazeVR and Studio Realive, a subsidiary of aespa’s management company SM Entertainment.
The event, titled "LYNK-POP: THE 1st VR CONCERT aespa," aims to offer fans an immersive concert experience beyond traditional VR video content.
The upcoming show will feature the quartet’s smash hits and utilize the advanced Meta Quest 3 VR headset from Meta, making aespa fans among the first to get a taste of this new technology. The concert will offer an immersive and interactive encounter where fans can directly engage with the members ― Karina, Winter, Giselle and Ningning.
Aespa’s AmazeVR concert was first unveiled in March during South by Southwest (SXSW) Music Festival, one of the world’s largest music events, and garnered rave reviews for its innovative approach.
“Aespa takes fans on a journey through new worlds and experiences with their performances and visuals,” Studio Realive CEO Lee Seung-woo said. “The VR concert perfectly matches aespa's meaning of traveling between virtual spaces and we’re so excited for MYs (aespa fans) to experience the show.”
Steve Lee, co-CEO of AmazeVR, said, “K-Pop continuously pushes the boundaries for innovative ways to connect with fans, and with that we are so excited to be working alongside SM Entertainment and aespa to unveil their debut VR concert through a unique and captivating activation. We know that not every aespa fan owns a VR headset or is able to see them in concert, which is why we wanted to make ‘LYNK-POP: THE 1st VR CONCERT aespa’ accessible to as many people as possible through an immersive and interactive experience they won’t forget.”
Aespa burst onto the K-pop scene in 2020 and has rolled out a string of hits including, “Black Mamba” (2020) and “Next Level” (2021). The group is unique in that it consists of four human members and their respective digital avatars.
