It was once the norm for travel TV shows to explore aesthetically pleasing spots while offering travel tips on things to do and places to eat. However, now that there is an abundance of travel-related content on YouTube, broadcasters are shifting their focus to show more realistic circumstances of traveling as well as the interaction between celebrities.
As a reflection of the changing trend, it is becoming more common for travel reality shows to feature celebrity buddies. For travel TV shows, actors who make rare appearances on reality TV but are known for their fun personalities are highly sought after. Producers are looking to uncover the hidden sides of actors.

Actors Ha Jung-woo and Ju Ji-hoon, who famously played grim reapers in "Along with the Gods" film franchise (2017-2018), are currently starring in tvN's "Bros on Foot." In the show, they set out on a rough backpacking road trip around New Zealand. They must complete a series of missions to win airplane tickets to take fans on their dream trips. The two are often seen engaging in witty banter with each other.
Actor Cho Jin-woong, who admits he is a newbie camper and has never set up a tent before, will appear in the second season of tvN's "Europe Outside Your Tent" alongside fellow actors Kwon Yul, Choi Won-young and Park Myung-hoon.
The travel show focuses on collaboration between four actors as they deal with some undesirable aspects of traveling around Spain. The cast mates stay at camping sites instead of hotels, rent cars instead of taking trains and cook food instead of visiting restaurants.
"In the proposal, the production team suggested my co-stars/best friends in real life as cast members. When I heard about the possible cast lineup, I felt we could all have fun spending time together," Cho said. The first episode of "Europe Outside Your Tent" will air on March 2.
Actors Lee Sun-kyun, Kim Nam-hee, Kim Do-hyun and director Jang Hang-jun will star in tvN's "The Most Private Asia," which will premiere on March 27.
"Our show does not feature vacation spots that often come to mind when we think of traveling to Southeast Asia. The four cast members will visit hidden attractions. Please look forward to the portrayal of team dynamics resulting from the different travel styles of each cast member," the show's producer Kwak Ji-hye said.
