Local over-the-top (OTT) platform Tving's original dating show, "EXchange2," is enjoying popularity globally.
According to the Hong Kong-based streaming service, Viu, which streams the show overseas, "EXchange2" has had a good performance on the streaming charts throughout September and October. In countries like Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Thailand, the show has remained in the top five on the streaming chart for unscripted shows.
"Korean reality shows, along with Korean dramas, are very popular (nowadays). The amount of interest the viewers are taking toward 'EXchange2,' which stars ordinary people instead of celebrities, is just impressive," an official from Viu said in a statement.
Viu has been streaming several Korean dramas and reality shows that aired this year, including the heartfelt series, "If You Wish Upon Me," the legal series, "Why Her," and Tving's other original show, "Young Actors' Retreat," in 16 countries in the Asian, Middle Eastern and African regions.
Tving's popular dating reality show, "Exchange," follows a group of former couples who broke up for various reasons, as they stay in a house together. While the ex-couples interact with each other, reflecting on their relationships and breakups, they also try to find new love with other couples' exes in the group. As the group spends time together, they must decide whether to move on to a new romance or go back to the previous relationship.
The show was picked up for the second season after the first season garnered popularity in June last year.
Season 2, which ended last Friday after about a three-month run, was a huge hit in Korea, contributing to bringing the largest number of new subscribers to the platform in its history.
