Actors Jo Woo-jin, Jung Kyung-ho and Park Ji-hwan are set to star in "Boss" (working title), an action comedy film directed by Ra Hee-chan, known for his previous works, "Going by the Book" (2007) and "Mr. Idol" (2011).
Jo will star as Soon-tae who reluctantly joined a gang to keep his family-run Chinese restaurant afloat. Eventually, he gets promoted to the crime ring's second-in-command position, but instead of taking over the gang's leadership, he wants to start a franchise with his restaurant that has been handed down for generations.
The actor is having quite the year with films "Kingmaker" and "Alienoid," followed by the Netflix series "Narco-Saints." He can be seen next in "Harbin," a spy action film that tells the story of Korean independence activists in the early 1900s. He will star alongside actors Hyun Bin, Jeon Yeo-been and Lee Dong-wook.
Meanwhile, Jung will be playing the role of Kang-pyo, the unpredictable grandson of the crime boss. This month he will be starring alongside Ma Dong-seok in the plastic surgery-themed comedy-drama "Men of Plastic." In January next year, he will star in the tvN drama "One Shot Scandal" next to Jeon Do-yeon. It revolves around a mother who shepherds her child to private cram schools, in order to get her child admitted to a top school in Korea.
Park, who left a strong impression in the crime action film "The Roundup," will play the role of Pan-ho, who is willing to become the next gang leader, but nobody takes him seriously due to his dim nature. "The Roundup" is so far the biggest box office hit this year, selling more than 10?million tickets.
Park is one of the most sought-after actors in the film industry at the moment. He has starred in "The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure" and "Hansan: Rise of Dragon," and is confirmed to star in "The Roundup: Punishment," the fourth installment of "The Roundup" franchise.
The cast lineup for "Boss" also includes Lee Kyu-hyung, as Tae-gyu, a food delivery rider who works at Soo-tae's restaurant, and Oh Dal-su, as the gang's de factor leader, In-sool.
Production house Hive Media Corp. plans to begin shooting the film in the first half of 2023. The release date has not been confirmed yet.
"'Boss' features a stellar cast and crew who will pour their hearts and souls into the production. Please look forward to the comical story of various characters competing for the position of the next gang leader," the company said in a statement.
