Seohyun, an actress and member of K-pop act Girls' Generation, said she wanted to explore every facet her job serves up by taking on a new challenge with the unconventional romantic comedy film, "Love and Leashes."

In the upcoming Netflix film, Seohyun plays Ji-woo, who accidentally finds out about her co-worker Ji-hoo's (Lee Jun-young) sexual fetishes, after mistakenly opening a package that belongs to him. The two enter a contractual relationship as partners in consensual play to fulfill each other's sexual fantasies.

It is directed by Park Hyun-jin, well-known for her films, "Lovers of Six Years" (2008) and "Like for Likes" (2016).

Although it is Seohyun's debut film, this is not the first time for the singer-actress to make an appearance on Netflix. The star was also featured in the TV series, "Private Lives" (2020) and "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo" (2016), which are currently available on the global streaming service.

Describing "Love and Leashes" as a bitingly funny rom-com, Seohyun said that she tried to express her character's complex emotions while trying hard to bridge the gap between reality and the ideal.

Seohyun, who has three big-and small-screen projects lined up for this year, including films "Love and Leashes" and "Holy Night: Demon Hunters," as well as the TV series, "The Jinx's Lover," said she takes delight in creating different characters.

"I love creating different characters because it helps me broaden my perspective and gives me new ideas and approaches for acting. "Love and Leashes" moves away from traditional rom-coms, but it enabled me to understand that such a romantic relationship and people could exist," she said.

Director Park praised Seohyun for her performance in the film, "She did a superb job in expressing a cold and blunt demeanor. Through this work, viewers will be able to discover new facets of Seohyun," she said.

A scene from the Netflix film, 'Love and Leashes' / Courtesy of Netflix

Actor Lee, who plays opposite Seohyun, said he tried to become "the human version of a golden retriever."

"I requested Lee to put on more weight so that he could literally look like a big dog. I believed his looks would affect Ji-hoo and Ji-woo's relationship and their on-screen chemistry," director Park said.

Seohyun debuted as a member of Girls' Generation in 2007 with the album, "Into the New World." She made her small screen debut in 2014 with the SBS series, "Passionate Love" and has since appeared in several works including the MBC drama, "Bad Thief Good Thief" (2017).

Lee debuted as a member of the now-disbanded K-pop boy band, U-Kiss, in 2014 and made his way into acting with the comedy series, "Avengers Social Club" (2017). He has starred in various series, including "D.P." on Netflix.

"Love and Leashes" will be unveiled on Netflix on Feb. 11.
