What makes a K-pop group truly successful?

While major K-pop conglomerates and even minor labels strive to crack that code, a recent concert by girl group Oh My Girl offered some clear answers: an unwavering camaraderie among group members and their genuine love for performing.

Held last weekend at Olympic Hall in Seoul's Olympic Park, the "2025 OH MY GIRL CONCERT 'Milky Way'" marked the group's first standalone show in more than six years. Their last show was "Fall Fairy Tales" in October 2018.

The concert wasn't just a comeback — it was a celebration and tribute to a decade of Oh My Girl's music, memories and milestones since their debut in April 2015. And the celebration was filled with soulful music rather than spectacle.

Born under a relatively small agency, the group didn't skyrocket to fame overnight. Instead, they took the textbook road — earning recognition through emotionally resonant tracks and performances built on harmony.

That authenticity is what drew fans of all sorts to Sunday's concert — from seasoned supporters wielding enormous camera lenses to young families and wide-eyed children.

Draped in glimmering white outfits, the six members — Hyojung, Mimi, YooA, Seunghee, Yubin and Arin — opened the evening with the ethereal "Closer," a song that encapsulates their signature fairytale aesthetic.

The mood deepened with "Classified," a bittersweet ballad about protecting someone from afar, followed by the beloved "Secret Garden," the track that earned them their first music show win.

The hall quickly filled with cheers, and the members responded with grateful smiles, visibly moved.

"Time really flies," said leader Hyojung. "I'm so happy to be celebrating this milestone with Miracle," she added, referring to their official fandom.

"It feels both short and long — these 10 years we've spent together since 2015," reflected YooA. "I think we've made it here because of the love from our fans and the strength of our members."

From there, the group launched into a flurry of fan favorites — "The Fifth Season," "Cupid," "Nonstop," "Shower" and "Real Love" — balancing their wistful and whimsical identity with a brighter, more playful charm.

Fans were also treated to the live debut of "Oh My," the 10th anniversary special single released earlier this month.

Throughout the show, the six members poured everything they had into each note and movement. They grinned at each other between verses, danced without restraint and made no effort to pose perfectly for the cameras. What shone through instead was their joy — so genuine that it tugged at the hearts of everyone watching.

In a nod to the group's 10-year legacy, the concert also featured rare unit stages. Yubin and Arin showed sultry confidence in "Sway," while Hyojung and YooA showcased their vocal prowess in the ballad "Love Me Like You Do." Mimi and Seunghee lit up the stage with their bold hip-hop flair in "La La La La."

Then came the long-awaited return of showstopping "Queendom" stages, performances from the 2019 Mnet reality competition that helped redefine their public image. The traditional Korean-inspired "My Destiny," followed by "Twilight" and "Guerilla" drew thunderous reactions, making it a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many in the crowd.

The surprises continued with "Weather Forecast," a previously unreleased track. With lyrics promising that every moment ahead will shine as long as the group stays together, the song left fans misty-eyed, hinting that Oh My Girl's journey is far from over.

The main set closed with disco remixes of "Dun Dun Dance" and "Remember Me." But fans, unwilling to let go, called them back with raucous encore chants.

Returning to perform "Bungee" and "Perfect Day," the members stepped offstage in a surprise move to interact with the audience.

By that point, emotions had fully surfaced. Throughout the evening, the members fought back tears — but as the lights dimmed, the six finally let go.

"Ten years is not short, and it hasn't been easy," said Yubin, struggling to speak as she tried not to cry.

"There were so many challenges, but every time, your cheers and the look in your eyes gave me strength … I was 19 back then, and now I'm 29. If I was once a girl who needed your protection, now I want to be someone who gives you comfort and support. Thank you, and I love you all so much," she said.

Seunghee added, with her voice breaking, "Each and every one of you is so precious, and yet, you still made time to come see us ... They say nothing lasts forever, but let's try making something eternal — together. I'm endlessly thankful."
