Korean figure skating star Kim Yu-na has been ranked eighth among the top 10 highest paid woman athletes in the world, Tuesday (KST). Forbes magazine announced that the Vancouver Olympic gold medalist earned about $10 million last year, to rank eighth while Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova maintained the top spot for a seventh consecutive year by earning $25 million.

Marathoner Ji cut from team before championships
Korea’s top marathon runner Ji Young-jun has been forced to pull out of the IAAF World Championships due to a thigh injury. The Guangzhou Asian Games gold medalist had been one of the nation’s top hopes of earning a medal at the upcoming world athletics meet that will be held from Aug. 27 to Sept. 4 in Daegu, some 300 kilometers southeast of Seoul.
