Local home appliance maker Coway has captured the interest of health-conscious consumers in Korea by developing cutting-edge filter technology for its air purifiers.
Since introducing its first air purifier in 1995, Coway has been expanding its business in the field for nearly 30 years. It became the first company to rent out its air purifiers in 2001, making the appliances available to more households at affordable prices.
Its strength and specialty in the air purifier market comes from the company's unrivaled filter-making technology.
Coway's "air clean anti-bacterial filter system" used in its premium Noble air purifier products is a patented 4D filter that is made of a 4D pre-filter, double air matching filter, multi-cube deodorization filter and air-clean anti-bacterial filter. It not only removes 99.999 percent of the 0.01 micrometer-sized ultrafine dust, which is one-thousandth the thickness of a human hair, but also reduces airborne bacteria and viruses by inhibiting bacterial and fungal growth within the filter.
"Coway is recognized for its technology excellence in air purifier products and filters not only in Korea but also in overseas markets," a Coway official said.
The company also invented its air matching filter based on air quality studies it has conducted since 2014. The filter specializes in reducing pollutants.
There are six types of air-matching filters: allergen filter, double deodorization filter, fine dust special filter, pet filter and new home filter ― which can be selected and used according to specific conditions.
For example, a customer can select a pet filter to eliminate animal hair and odors in the home. It is also capable of removing hydrogen sulfide that is created in pets' feces and removes up to 96 percent of odor-causing substances.
"We plan to continue our research on air-cleaning filters and indoor air quality to lead the air purifier market," the official said.
