Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong gave gifts to female employees that recently gave birth as well as to multicultural employees for the Lunar New Year holiday.

Chairman Lee gave Samsung air purifiers to 64 female employees who gave birth to children between Jan. 1 through Jan. 7.

"We have prepared a small gift to celebrate the birth of a precious life that has come to our family. I hope that your lovely children will grow up healthy and wise, and I hope that your family will always be filled with happiness," Lee said.

In addition to the new mothers, Chairman Lee presented Everland annual passes and gift cards to a total of 180 employees' families who come from multicultural backgrounds. Human resources executives from each company personally visited the families and delivered the gifts.

Chairman Lee has taken good care of the employees by sending holiday gifts to executives and employees and encouraging working moms. On Chuseok last year, families with multiple children as well as families of employees who are on long-term overseas business placements were presented with the latest in handheld devices such as smartphones and tablet PCs.

In August, Chairman Lee visited Samsung SDS Jamsil Campus to meet with 10 working mothers ― of various ages ― before holding a meeting with top management and expressed his gratitude, saying, "Working mothers who raise children are patriots."

In addition, they had an informal conversation about their recent interests and concerns and changes in their work and family lives after the COVID-19 pandemic.

About a week before the Samsung SDS visit, Chairman Lee visited Samsung Engineering's Global Engineering Center (GEC) and personally went to the in-house daycare center to see how it operates. In August 2020, Lee held a conversation with in-house working mothers at Samsung Electronics' Suwon plant, and heard about the difficulties working mothers faced specifically with daycare centers, kindergartens and schools, which did not operate normally in the aftermath of COVID.

Even at the time, Chairman Lee said, "We need to change not only the wrong systems and practices but also outdated perceptions. Let's create an organizational culture that can serve as an example."
