SPC Group opened its ninth Shake Shack restaurant in Singapore at Junction 8, the largest shopping mall in Bishan. The opening is the latest move by the food company in its campaign to expand its business into Southeast Asia, it said, Friday.
After acquiring a license to run the U.S. burger chain in Singapore, SPC Group opened the first store in Jewel Changi Airport in April 2019.

"It is a notable achievement that we have expanded Shake Shack restaurants not only in commercial areas but also at shopping malls near residential complexes. Singapore is an important market for us to expand the burger chain business in Southeast Asia, which will help us to be global later. We will continue to open more restaurants in Singapore," an SPC Group official said.
Early in January, SPC Group also earned a license to operate Shake Shack restaurants in Malaysia from 2023. The company revealed its plan to open 10 stores there by 2031.
Shake Shack granted SPC Group permission to operate its restaurants in Singapore and Malaysia after acknowledging the company's capabilities in the franchise business.
"We are the only business partner outside of the United States that manufactures the buns used in Shake Shack burgers. Our world-class R&D system and product quality captured the American fast food chain's heart," the official added.
Currently, SPC operates 23 Shake Shack restaurants in Seoul.
Shake Shack was brought into Korea in 2016 by SPC Group Vice President Hur Hee-soo, who is the second son of Chairman Hur Young-in. The younger Hur is said to have worked on securing a business license to operate Shake Shack in Korea since 2011.
