Using fame for good cause
What I see as a problem in media coverage about first lady is that she is being treated like a celebrity or a social media influencer. I do not think she has such wishes. The way she is reported on in media outlets is something that the presidential office should take seriously.

North Korea emboldened by diplomatic silence
North Korea has been making a lot of noise but few seem to notice. Kim Jong-un's reclusive communist regime has fired off 23 missiles since the beginning of the year to the collective yawns of world opinion.

Should we burn crypto?
The fall of the “stablecoin” Luna has shifted the opinion of many regarding cryptocurrency and generated a lot of uncertainty about the future of digital currencies.

How to engage with China
How to engage with China
The world order is at risk of a lasting split, with the United States and its allies on one side, and China and its partners on the other. As U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen noted at an Atlantic Council event last month, this outcome is far from desirable, and the U.S. must work with China to prevent it. But, practically in her next breath, Yellen advocated actions that ...

Korea should become outspoken defender of open multilateral trading arrangements
Korea should become outspoken defender of open multilateral trading arrangements
There is an old joke: if you've been in a country for only a day, you're an expert; if you've been there two days, you're a specialist; and if you've been there any longer, you're as confused as everyone else! As someone who hasn't been in Korea since COVID hit, I think I may be less confused than most. As an outsider, I presume to suggest three issues that are, in my view, v...

More policy support needed for single mothers to save family
More policy support needed for single mothers to save family
According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, there are approximately 200,000 Korean adoptees who have been placed in multiple countries, and approximately 170,000 of them have been residing in the United States since the late 1950's. As Korean adoptees with a nationality other than Korean, there are internal conflicts, pain and trauma that consist of the sense of abandonm...

Pyongyang's COVID gamble
North Korea has played the role of mini-me to China when it comes to COVID. Both countries have pursued a zero-COVID strategy over the past two years and both now are facing the disastrous results of that decision.

Power of gathered community
The adage, “there is strength in numbers,” is more than just old wisdom. It is a fact that has been proven time and again throughout history. I've had many experiences with this. Work goes faster when several people are involved. Tasks get completed by using everyone's strengths, be it physical or emotional.

Be aware: Singularity is near
Artificial intelligence will exceed human intelligence. Elon Musk once said that AI would grow vastly smarter than humans. Musk pointed out that AI would overtake the human race by 2025. In contrast, some experts say the rise of artificial intelligence will make most of us better off, not replace us, or make us go extinct.

'Depp sadness'
It's always jarring to see the idols of your youth turn into an unfortunate spectacle right in front of your eyes. This happened to - among many others - Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and now, Johnny Depp. I was too young to experience Elvis and Michael as they were in the beginning of their careers, except for snippets of old videos on Ed Sullivan shows and Jackson Five per...
