Jeonbuk Motors veteran striker Lee Dong-gook is finally on the board for Cho Kwang-rae’s roster.
The Korea Football Association (KFA) announced that Cho called Lee instead of injured Kim Bo-kyung of Cerezo Osaka, Friday.
He is joining the national squad for the first time in 15 months. So far Lee scored 25 in 85 international matches.
As of the sudden call-up Lee will play in the friendly against Poland and Asia’s third World Cup qualifying round against United Arab Emirates on Oct. 7 and Oct. 11, respectively.
“I have considered about calling up Lee for a long time,” Cho told to Yonhap.
“As Kim was injured I thought my team needs a different type of striker and I selected Lee,” added Cho.
Lee has marked 14 goals with 14 assists in the K-League and during the recent AFC Champions League second-leg quarterfinal against Osaka Thursday Lee netted four times.
The national squad will be called Tuesday at the National Football Center for training session for two international matches.
