Figure skating star Kim Yu-na has yet to make a decision on whether to appear at this season’s ISU Figure Skating World Championships.
“I haven’t made a decision,” Kim said Wednesday in Los Angeles. The Korean figure skating queen made the statement as she visited the Staples Center, as it was announced that the “City of Angels” will be the host city for the 2015 Special Olympics. Kim is a global ambassador for the Special Olympics.
When asked about her current condition Kim said, “I am in good form. I don’t feel any pain right now. I have skated two or three hours every day.” But she also mentioned she is not sure of participating in the worlds in France in March.
“If my mind is ready for the worlds, and my body is in good shape, I will decide then.”
The Vancouver Olympic gold medalist has only appeared twice on the international stage — at the world championships in 2010 and 2011 — after topping the podium at the Winter Games in 2010.
In Vancouver she overwhelmed the other competitors setting a new world record of 228.56 points for gold in February 2010. After she achieved her life goal of Olympic success, the 21-year-old hasn’t been as focused and could only manage second at the world championships in March last year.
As she has rarely competed, there is speculation that Kim might want to push for further glory. But Kim doesn’t totally agree with that idea.
“For athletes to appear in competitions, they should have goals first. And they need to prepare strong and eager.
“Usually when I keep on training I can feel it. I need to train more,” Kim said.
On her special ambassadorship’s role, she said: “It is really an honor for me to do good things.
“It was really great to help the PyeongChang Winter Games bid committee and I am very happy to help disabled people informing of the Special Olympics all over the world."
