Cleveland Indians Korean outfielder Choo Shin-soo smashed his first home run since returning to the diamond following a thumb injury, Sunday (KST).
In a road game against the Detroit Tigers, Choo hit his sixth homer of the season in a 10-1 defeat. It is his first home run since May 14.
With his homer, Indians manager Manny Acta seemed sure about the comeback of the team’s former leading hitter.
Since Choo returned to Major League Baseball (MLB) on Aug. 13, the 29-year-old Korean has batted 10-for-30.
Choo, who hit for a single in the first inning, punished Tigers starter Doug Fister in the third.
With a 1-2 count Choo sent Fister’s change-up over the left fence for a 4-1 deficit.
As the Korean outfielder added another hit in the seventh inning, he batted 3-for-4 to improve his batting average to .253.
Tribe starter David Huff later collapsed, allowing five runs on four hits and four walks in 2 1-3 innings for the loss. The Indians now trail American League Central Division leader Tigers by 3 1/2 games.
