Korean golfer Choi Kyoung-ju remains in third place on the United States’ PGA money list this season, following the PGA Championships that ended Monday (KST).
Choi has earned a total $3,768,242 after receiving $30,250 at the fourth and final major of the year for finishing joint-39th.
While the Korean slid down one spot in the rankings on Aug. 1 after the Green Brier Classic in which he did not participate, he has consistently been in the money in 2011.
This year the 42-year-old has competed in 18 events including three other majors — the Masters in April, the U.S. Open in June and the British Open in July.
While the 17-year PGA veteran has failed to win a major, his biggest payday came from his victory at the Players Championships in May, the golfer’s sole success this season. He shot a 13-under 275 par to collect $1.71 million from a $9.5 million-purse.
Another impressive result came in July when Choi finished runner-up at the AT&T National in July with an 11-under 269, two strokes behind Nick Watney of the U.S. The Korean won $669,600 from the $6.2 million prize money available, while the American took home the lion’s share with $1.116 million. Watney is ranked second on the money list with $4,397,269, while Luke Donald, stands atop the tables with $4,517,748.
The Korean places sixth with 1,601 points in the FedEx Cup standings. Each player is given a specific number of points based on the outcome of each regular tournament. The top 125 players are eligible to compete in the playoffs that will start after the Wyndham Championship this week, the final tournament of the regular season.
“I have not been consistent in my play in some of the events, and I should come up with something for a victory in the playoffs,” Choi said.
