To some people there is nothing more enjoyable than playing golf. On the other hand, there are many golfers who find golf the most frustrating of sports, as they strive tirelessly to reduce their scores.

There are numerous players who want to improve their skills, and these players take great efforts to continuously challenge themselves to get to the next par.

These days, there is a constant demand of many people to obtain information about the
game of golf easily, and to become a more effective player.

To further assist those who are motivated to learn the game of golf, and with the encouragement of my friends, I decided to write this column.

Cocking

Cocking is naturally formed from the waist and up during the back swing. At the swing top, the cock is formed in the direction of your thumb, which is the swing top.

If the cock’s direction is not towards the thumb but to the back or palm of your hand, the club’s face will point to a wrong direction. Which makes it difficult to hit the ball straight.

By waiting to release the cock right before impact, you will have power in your impact, and your follow through will follow the ball. This will make it easier to hit the ball straight.

Amateur golfers should not try too hard to form a perfect cock. They should instead try to form it naturally.

The cock of your wrist is a preliminary action to add power to the impact. It is the driving force of the impact.

Always bear in mind that you should release the cock at the point of impact, and the wrist of your left hand should not be bent.
