Football fans may not be able to cheer with vuvuzela, a traditional South African horn, during the 2010 South Africa World Cup which will continue through July 12.

Football fans may not be able to cheer with vuvuzela, a traditional South African horn, during the 2010 South Africa World Cup which will continue through July 12.

Danny Jordan, FIFA 2010 World Cup organizing chief, said that FIFA is now reviewing the ban of the noisy horns at stadiums. His remarks came at a time when broadcasting staff, soccer players and fans filed an increasing number of complaints against the instrument.

Vuvuzelas make loud noise, annoying not only players at the fields, but also visitors at their accommodations. Some devout South African fans played the horns early in the morning, waking up foreign tourists in sleep.

Earlier Sunday, Rich Mkhondo, a spokesman for the local organizing committee, said, "Everybody loves Vuvuzela. They are the symbol of the tournament."

But as opposition rose against it, the committee showed a moderated and considerate response to the use of the horns. Some shopping malls in South Africa already forbade bringing in vuvuzelas into their complex.

It seems that controversy on vuvuzelas would continue through the World Cup. Some African fans reacted strongly against banning the instruments.

"Vuvuzela is an old tradition of South Africa and is the 12th member of our team," said one native fan.
