The Embassy of Pakistan in Seoul, together with the Korea-Pakistan Friendship Association, will host an investment seminar next Monday.
Saleem H. Mandviwala, minister of state and chairman of the board of investment, will open the one-day session, which will take place at the Korea International Trade Association.
In its press release, Pakistani Ambassador Shaukat Ali Mukadam encouraged Korean business representatives to participate in the seminar and invest in Pakistan, citing the World Bank Ease of Doing Business Index that ranked Pakistan as No. 1 in South Asia.
The ambassador also said that his country is the world’s second largest producer of buffalo meat and buffalo milk, the third largest producer of cottonseed and chili, the fourth largest goat meat producer, the fifth largest producer of mangoes and the seventh largest wheat producer.
However, it’s doubtful that this list will attract the attention of Koreans because most of the items mentioned are not in the local diet.
Security is the most important issue for prospective investors. Any assurances on this from the Pakistani government face challenges by sectarian violence.
The most recent deadly attack took place at the country’s largest air base on Thursday, killing nine.
Yet, a lack of infrastructure in the country is enticing construction companies from all over the world.
From Korea, Lotte Group is building a chemical plant to produce Pure Terephthalic Acid. Sambu Construction built the 8.5 kilometer Lawari tunnel and is now building a hydro power plant in Azad Kashmir.
