'Why UAE?' published in Korean

A book on investment and doing business in the United Arab Emirates is now available in Korean.

Published by the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “Why UAE?” seeks to serve as a guide book for those who’re considering investing and doing business in the oil-rich country.

“The book answers all the questions that come to the minds of those who plan to invest or do business in any of the seven emirates of the UAE,” according to a press release from the UAE embassy in Seoul.

The 421-page book covers a range of subjects: an overview of the country; a list of potential business opportunities; rules and regulations; and educational and medical services when living in the country.

The release of the book speaks volumes to the status of Korean investment in the UAE.

According to the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), 143 Korean companies have offices in the UAE, which are dominated by construction companies.

One of the most recognized projects is the construction of the first nuclear power plant projects in the region by a South Korean-led consortium. In mid-July, the authorities granted a license for the construction.

The book doesn’t exclude the UAE’s interest in products from small and medium-entrepreneurs.

Between May 21 and 23 in Abu Dhabi, a “Made-in-Korea” exhibition displayed an array of Korean products. From automobiles, metals, electronics to home appliances and cosmetics, hundreds of items from more than 90 small and medium entrepreneurs attracted prospective consumers.

Conglomerates were present, but the exhibition was mainly for small companies.

Lee Myung-koo, the exhibition director at KOTRA who helped produce the exhibition, said he had witnessed a great deal of interest from UAE consumers and businessmen in Korean products made by small companies.

The book is free. Those who are interested should contact the embassy in Seoul.
