As a foreigner in Korea I was shocked at the title of an Oct. 5 Korea Times article, "Brawl of old woman, teenage girl in subway car causes stir."
Having seen the videos of the incident, the girl in question was undoubtedly under the age of 18 and is considered a minor in Korea as well as in the West.
She is therefore a vulnerable person and I am confused as to why someone under the age of consent for voting etc. could be held accountable for the savage attack to which she was subjected.
The word brawl implies that there were two people fighting and an exchange of words is not considered a brawl. The title therefore implies that the child struck the woman; this does not happen in either of the Internet videos of the assault.
You may note that I have not mentioned the fact that the teenager was rude to an elderly woman. This is of no matter: it is never right to hit a child. This child has now been doubly victimized; first on the subway and secondly by being vilified in your newspaper.
