Dear editor,

Imagine being separated from loved ones for half a century and unable to reconcile as both Koreas are still technically at war. Scenes of family reunions in the divided nation are always heart-wrenching affairs moving people to tears.

A tearful affair, these family members hug their loved ones and hold each other tight during the emotional meeting.

While many have their own tragic story to share, more are grateful to have this opportunity to meet up with their loved ones face-to-face during their lifetime. The Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) has separated them, but not their hearts.

The 1950-53 Korean War not only caused families to be separated and but also inflicted severe mental pain on them. So near but yet so far, their hopes of reunification are waning as time goes by.

Those who are able to meet up with their loved ones (at least in their lifetime) are indeed the lucky ones. At least the long wait was not in vain.
