Thinly Unveiled Pride

Dear editor,

I found Jon Huer's May 23-24 column, ``Why Is Korea So Corrupt?" refreshingly frank.

It would seem that if only a portion of Koreans' collective conspiratorial energies were redirected toward curing social ills, their country would be among the most envied in the world.

However, if Huer's thinly veiled pride in Korean's penchant for self-serving behavior reflects that of Korean society, the orphanages will stay full and parents will have to continue to adopt away their children for humane education on U.S. Army military bases.

Let's hope that the Lee and Obama administrations, while focusing on economic gain, also direct funds toward building society's ethical consciousness.
