French-Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) Chairman David-Pierre Jalicon hosted a luncheon with 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics' Organizing Committee President Lee Hee-beom at the Grand Ambassador Seoul on June 1.
French Ambassador to Korea Fabien Penone also attended the event, which the organizing committee co-hosted, to "raise interest and participation of the French-Korean business community by providing comprehensive information on the Olympic Games program," according to the FKCCI.
"Having been here a long time, I have seen how much Korea was longing for its Winter Olympics games," the chairman said.
"Considering as well how much previous world events — such as the 1988 Seoul Olympics and the 2002 World Cup — affected Korean Society, expectations are high."
President Lee had been a "pillar of the Korean economy and its success" through nearly 20 years, the chairman said.
Lee was minister of trade, industry and energy from 2003-2006, Korea International Trade Association president and Korean Employers Federation president. He was also chairman of STX Heavy Industries and LG International CEO.
The FKCCI, set up in 1986, has more than 350 member companies, including most French companies in Korea and Korean companies that have business relationships with France.
The chamber aims to promote bilateral exchanges, investment and trade relations between France and Korea through various events.
