K-pop singer and actor Lee Seung-gi, who is doing mandatory military service at the Special Warfare Command, will attend a three-week parachute course later this month, according to the command, Thursday.
"Lee will attend the basic airborne training taking place from April 11 to 29," an official from the command said. "The exercise includes jumps from helicopters or transport planes at altitudes of 2,400 to 2,800 feet."
During the first and second week, Lee, 29, will attend ground-based training on how to operate a parachute and how to land. He will participate in jumps during the final week, the official said.
"Soldiers will be assessed to have succeeded in the airborne exercise if they complete the landing fall four times without any problems," the official said, noting that Lee will be treated equally with other soldiers.
Lee was assigned to the intelligence specialty group and joined the Special Warfare Command on March 21 after completing basic training at the Army training center in Nonsan, South Chungcheong Province, on March 16.
Lee's duty is handling administrative affairs, and not combat operations, according to officials.
Lee was conscripted on Feb. 1 and will be discharged on Oct. 31 next year.
He debuted as a singer in 2004 with the hit track "Because You're My Girl."
Lee has taken center stage as an actor in various TV dramas, including "Brilliant Legacy" and "The King 2 Hearts."
He has also shown his talent on variety shows, most notably "Two Days, One Night."
Lee released the single "I'm Joining the Military" on Jan. 21 to tell fans he was reporting for mandatory duty.
On the day of his conscription, hundreds of fans from Korea, China and Japan gathered at the training center's entrance to watch the star join the Army.
