Hanjin chief named advisor for int'l table tennis body

Korean Air said Sunday that the international table tennis organization has appointed Cho Yang-ho, chairman of the nation’s biggest carrier and its parent company Hanjin Group, as special advisor of finance and marketing at its general meeting in Paris, Friday.

As a special advisor, Cho, 64, will assist the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) in securing financing and revenue sources, in addition to advising on marketing and related programs to enhance the work of the federation.

Cho is the president of the Korea Table Tennis Association and the vice president of the Asia Table Tennis Union.

The carrier said that the appointment shows that the ITTF is acknowledging Cho’s contribution to the development of international table tennis.

Cho played a key role in hosting the historic November 2011 Peace and Sport Table Tennis Cup, a tournament to encourage dialogue and reconciliation between disputed nations. Ten countries participated in the tournament, including South and North Korea which joined the event as a united team.
