Winners of the 42nd Modern Korean Literature Translation Awards
The Korea Times is happy to announce the winners of the 42nd Modern Korean Literature Translation Awards. This year, the judges have announced four winners, all in the fiction category.
The Grand Prize winner is Jung Ye-won for her translation of Jung Young-moon’s “A Way of Remembrance.” The cash award for the Grand Prize is 5 million won. There are three commendation awards in fiction, as the judges had to reluctantly decide there was no poetry translation that should be recognized this year.
Two commendation award winners have been chosen for the same work. Koh Hyo-jin and Charse Yun, who both translated Kim Hoon’s “Rivers and Mountains Without End,” are winners of a cash prize of 1.5 million won each. Another commendation award winner is Patricia Park, with her translation of Yoon Sung-hee’s “Hole,” who will take home a 1 million won cash prize.
The Korea Times and the Korea Exchange Bank sponsored the contest. We congratulate all winners and hope that even a greater number of entries will be received next year.
