The government will help soldiers discharged from their military duty land jobs overseas, an official said Tuesday.
The Human Resources Development Service under the Ministry of Employment and Labor has signed an agreement with the Army and the International Contractors Association of Korea for systematic support for talented ex-military personnel.
“The agreement is to help former soldiers take advantage of the skills they learned during their years of service,” an official said.
Jobseekers will be required to register their military career records, including their vocations, on the website (www.worldjob.or.kr). The service will go over the records to find suitable employers abroad. The agency will focus on the Middle East where Korean troops have been stationed.
“We expect around 15,000 jobseekers will have a chance to work in the Middle East, as a number of former soldiers, including those who served in Iraq, have expertise and experience in the region,” the official said. “Moreover, the region has a strong construction industry, for which we can provide workers.”
The agency will hold a job fair for discharged soldiers on May 29 at COEX in southern Seoul.
