Casino patron kills himself

A 50-year-old patron of Kangwon Land casino committed suicide Tuesday, according to police.

The man, identified as Seo Mo, hanged himself in the bathroom of his hotel room, using power cords at 12:10 p.m. at the casino complex in Jeongseon, Gangwon Province. A hotel maid discovered the body and alerted the police.

The police affirmed that Seo had visited the casino 107 times over the past year. They found a suicide note in his bag that read “I do not like Kangwon Land.”

Investigators suspect that Seo took his own life after losing money at the casino.

The police are investigating further to find the exact cause of death.

Since the opening of Korea’s first and only casino for Korean citizens in October 2000, more than 35 people have committed suicide following losing large sums of money while gambling.

Kangwon Land was in the news last month when two of its employees were arrested for gambling fraud.
