A video clip of middle school students verbally harassing a female teacher in a classroom is causing an uproar, which some Internet users claim is the result of the abolition of teachers’ authority following the banning of corporal punishment at school.

The footage shows both female and male students asking the teacher a series of sexually-harassing questions, despite repeated calls for restraint by the teacher.

In a 100-second-long footage uploaded onto web portals and Internet community sites, Saturday, students ask the teacher such questions as “When did you kiss for the first time?, “When did you get your first period?” and “When did you first have sex?” They even ask whether she gave birth to a baby and whether it hurt.

Upset by the students and their ill-mannered remarks, the teacher tries to restore order in the classroom by saying to the students, “Instead of making meaningless remarks, let’s open the textbook.” But the clip shows the pupils ignoring her by continuing to ask sexually-embarrassing questions, while banging on the desks.

The teacher then approaches the main group of students causing the fuss to warn them to stop. But one of male students stands up and tells her, “You are really pretty when I see you close up.”

Internet users who saw the video clip posted comments mostly critical of the misbehaved students. “Students these days are so rude that they should be forced to take more etiquette lessons,” one netizen said.

Others said the students should be immediately expelled from the school and their parents must offer the teacher an apology. Some even blamed the banning of corporal punishment for the growing number of harassment cases against teachers by students.

Last year, a video clip showing a male high school student sexually harassing a female teacher by putting his arm around her shoulder was released onto the Internet, forcing the school to reprimand him.

중학생들이 여교사에게 성희롱 발언을 퍼붓는 동영상이 인터넷에 유포돼 파장을 일으키고 있다.

18일 각종 포털 및 커뮤니티 사이트에는 '개념 없는 중딩(중학생)'이라는 제목의 동영상이 빠르게 퍼지고 있다. 중학교로 추정되는 한 교실에서 휴대전화 카메라로 촬영된 것으로 보이는 이 영상은 한 쌍의 남•녀 학생이 젊은 여교사에게 '언제 첫 키스했는가, 첫 사랑은…' 등의 질문을 던지며 시작된다.

교사라면 한 번쯤은 받아봤을 법한 농반 진반의 질문이지만 문제는 여기서 끝나지 않는다는 점에 있다. 교실을 떠들썩하게 만들며 질문을 계속하던 학생들은 '첫 경험, 초경(初經)' 까지 거론하며 여교사에게 성희롱 발언을 퍼부었다.

이에 여교사는 주의를 주기 위해 학생들 앞으로 다가갔으나 남학생으로부터 "가까이서 보니 진짜 예쁘네"라는 말만 듣는다. 영상은 여교사가 학생들을 제지하지 못하고 자존심 상한 듯한 표정으로 바라보는 상태에서 끝난다.

지난 17일 강원 강릉의 한 중학교에서 수업에 늦은 학생이 자신을 꾸짖는 40대 여교사에게 폭언을 퍼붓고 폭행을 휘두른 뒤 나가는 등 '교내 하극상'이 최근 속출하는 상황에서 이번 영상은 교실의 모습을 고스란히 보여줘 충격을 안겨주고 있다.

동영상을 접한 네티즌들은 "교권이 얼마나 추락했는지 제대로 보여준 영상이다" "우리나라 교육이 걱정된다" 등의 반응을 보였다.
