The national health insurance premium will go up by an average of six percent for non-salaried workers, the Ministry for Health, Welfare and Family Affairs said Sunday. Among the subscribers in this category are those who are self-employed.
According to the insurance corporation, 43 percent of 7.9 million subscribers will see the premium rise while 13 percent, or 980,000 households, will see a drop as their reported income has gone down over the past year.
Gunsan of North Jeolla Province will see the biggest increase, 9.7 percent, as real estate prices in the region rose last year, followed by Incheon, Euijeongbu and Yangju of Gyeonggi Province.
The National Health Insurance Corp. adjusts the premium for non-salaried workers every November based on their reported income and property values. The premium for November should be paid by Dec. 10, the corporation said.
